Itokoku History Museum
About this place
The Itokoku History Museum is located in the Ihara district and focuses on the history of the Itoshima Plain, where the ancient Itokoku nation once existed. The museum exhibits national treasures, including artifacts excavated from the Hirabaru Ruins, such as finely crafted mirrors and decorative items that once belonged to ancient rulers.
Inside the museum, the exhibition rooms display these precious items in a solemn atmosphere. Alongside the artifacts, there is a video space that provides explanations about the historical background, offering a three-dimensional presentation to deepen understanding of the lifestyles and culture of the people from that time.
Beyond the exhibition rooms, the museum features an observation area with large windows overlooking the surrounding rural landscape. From this vantage point, visitors can see the green, mountainous, and agricultural scenery of the Itoshima Plain, which changes with the seasons. The open design of this space allows for quiet contemplation of the view and provides a place for rest during a stroll. After viewing the ancient relics indoors, visitors can confirm the passage of time by looking out over the present-day Itoshima Plain from the window.
