Kochi Castle
About this place
Kochi Castle is located on a hill in the center of Kochi City, surrounded by green trees. It was originally built in 1603 and has been restored to preserve its historical form. Visitors can approach the castle by climbing a mountain path where large stone walls made from natural rocks and wooden structures come into view.
Inside the six-story wooden main keep, the beams and pillars retain an atmosphere reflective of its long history. The interior displays historical artifacts and artworks that illustrate the castle’s past and the lifestyle of the time. From the observation tower on the top floor, it is possible to look out over Kochi’s cityscape as well as the surrounding mountains.
The castle grounds include other well-preserved buildings in addition to the main keep. The sturdy stone walls and drainage designs demonstrate the construction techniques of the era. The castle site is accompanied by a park where various flowers and trees grow, a place commonly used by local residents for walking. The combination of wooden architecture and natural surroundings forms a setting where visitors move at their own pace.
