Nagasaki Penguin Aquarium
About this place
Nagasaki Penguin Aquarium is home to over 180 penguins, with both outdoor and indoor areas designed for their care. Located along the calm sea in Shukumachi, Nagasaki City, the facility includes an outdoor section called “Penguin Beach,” where part of the actual sea is enclosed with nets and fences. This area allows close observation of penguins swimming in the waves and moving on land.
The aquarium also features separate enclosures for different penguin species, a biotope showcasing seasonal plants and small creatures, and kayak experiences that offer views of the surrounding scenery and water from above. Alongside indoor tank observation, visitors can engage with the aquatic environment through kayaking in the sea breeze or strolling through the greenery of the biotope. The site serves as a place for family walks or quiet contemplation by the water, where the lives of marine animals can be observed in a variety of settings.
