About this place
Ogawa Falls lies on the upper reaches of the Ogawa River in the Nejime area of Minamiosumi, at the southern end of the Osumi Peninsula in Kagoshima. The falls drop 46 meters across a 60-meter-wide cliff, with water running down the rock face like silk into an emerald-green pool.
From the downstream parking lot, a walking trail of about 1,200 meters follows the stream to the basin. The path has a gentle incline, so comfortable shoes and clothing are recommended. Along the way you will pass spring water seeping from the rocks and resting spots beside the clear stream. Since April 2023, a section of the trail has been accessible for strollers and wheelchairs.
There are two viewpoints: the Upstream Observation Deck, which looks down on the basin from above, and the Ogawa Falls Observation Deck along the trail, right in front of the pool. The map pin shows the downstream parking lot, where the trail begins. Swimming in the basin is not permitted. Cape Sata is about an hour away by car, making the falls an easy stop on a drive around the Osumi Peninsula.
