Sakurai Futamigaura's Meotoiwa
About this place
Sakurai Futamigaura’s Meotoiwa is located along the coast of Shima Sakurai in Itoshima City, just outside Fukuoka City. The area has long been regarded as a sacred place and features a pair of large rocks known as the Meotoiwa, or “Married Couple Rocks,” which stand side by side near a white torii gate set against the backdrop of a clear blue sky and transparent sea.
During the day, visitors can see the striking contrast between the white torii gate and the vibrant blue ocean waters. The rocks rise from the waves, creating a distinctive coastal scene. People often sit quietly on the sandy beach, listening to the gentle sounds of the waves while taking in the natural landscape.
The surrounding area is suitable for walking, with several cafes and shops dotting the coastline. Walking along the beach near the torii gate and then visiting nearby establishments has become a common way for visitors to spend time here. The gentle sea breeze and the peaceful shoreline provide a setting where people walk and explore the coast.
