Tachibana Shrine
About this place
Tachibana Shrine is located in the townscape of Chijiwa in Unzen City, Nagasaki Prefecture, overlooking Tachibana Bay. The shrine is dedicated to Colonel Shuta Tachibana, an army officer active during the Russo-Japanese War. The precinct is quiet and blends smoothly with the peaceful surroundings.
Within the expansive grounds, part of Colonel Tachibana’s family home has been relocated, preserving traces of past daily life and history. While the shrine is generally enveloped in calm, its approach is lined with cherry trees that bloom in early spring. At that time, the pale pink blossoms form a tunnel along the pathway, attracting visitors during the flower viewing season.
The shrine grounds present a combination of natural scenery and historical structures, including the relocated house and seasonal cherry blossoms. Visitors to Chijiwa spend time there walking quietly amid the spacious area, which reflects the changing expressions of nature throughout the year.
