Unzen Nitatoge Pass
About this place
Unzen Nitatoge Pass is located in a mountainous area where the landscape changes with the seasons, covered by various plants such as azaleas in spring and maple trees in autumn. The clear air at this high elevation allows views of the surrounding mountain ranges and the seasonal shifts in vegetation.
A ropeway operates from the pass to the summit of Mount Myoken. The gently ascending gondola offers a panoramic view of the natural growth and terrain below. At the summit, the viewpoint opens further to reveal an extended view of the connected mountain ranges.
In spring, the mountainside is brightened by azaleas blooming together, creating a colorful scene. In autumn, the red and yellow hues of maple leaves cover the mountain slopes in a gradient of colors. Time at the ropeway and around the summit is often spent quietly observing these changing landscapes.
