Details
Shiraito Waterfall (白糸の滝 – Shiraito no Taki), located in Itoshima City, Fukuoka Prefecture, is a beautiful and refreshing natural attraction nestled halfway up Mount Hagane. It is one of Itoshima’s most popular scenic spots, perfect for relaxing and escaping into nature.
Highlights and Features
A Beautiful Waterfall Packed with Negative Ions
With a drop of about 24 meters, the waterfall gets its name (“white thread”) from the way the water gracefully streams down the rock face like strands of white silk. Designated as a scenic beauty spot by Fukuoka Prefecture, it allows visitors to get up close to feel the cool mist and breathe in the fresh, negative-ion-rich air.
Fun Activities for Everyone
The area offers great outdoor activities, such as Nagashi-somen (floating noodles caught with chopsticks in bamboo flutes, available in summer) and Yamame (mountain trout) fishing in the crystal-clear streams. You can even have your freshly caught fish grilled on-site, making it a huge hit for families and tourists.
Stunning Seasonal Scenery
While it is famously known as a cool summer retreat, the surrounding area is also planted with about 100,000 hydrangeas that come into full bloom from June to July. The vibrant autumn foliage also makes it a wonderful place to visit year-round.
💡 Travel Tip
Because it is located deep in the mountains, certain trails or roads may occasionally be closed due to weather conditions, and event hours can change depending on the season. It is always a good idea to check the latest local road conditions and event schedules before heading out.
