Shiomi Park
About this place
Shiomi Park is located near the summit of a high hill in the center of Shika Island, offering a range of natural and scenic experiences throughout the day. At night, the lights from the opposite shore of Hakata Bay begin to twinkle across the calm waters, while during the day, visitors walk among the trees, feeling the sea breeze. It is commonly visited as a stop during drives or cycling trips around the island.
The park features an observation tower with a spiral staircase. From the top, there is an unobstructed panoramic view that includes Shika Island and the narrow sandbar known as the “Sea Road,” which connects the island to the Kyushu mainland. This unique landform is visible from this elevated vantage point. On clear days, the skyline includes Fukuoka Tower, the buildings of the Seaside Momochi district, and ships moving through Hakata Bay.
At the base of the observation tower is a green area with dense trees, a lawn, and benches. The park also contains a monument inscribed with poetry from the ancient Manyoshu collection that reflects Shika Island’s longstanding history. Visitors walk along paths through the trees or sit quietly on benches, looking out toward the distant cityscape across the water.
